I had a look on the internet for a prayer of confession which uses the principles of gospel culture talked about in this blog – but I couldn’t find one; so I wrote one. I’d love to hear what you think. (The dashes invite you to pause and think.)

Lord Jesus

I am weak – – – You are strong

[This week] I have fallen short – – – You reached the finishing line

I have missed the mark – – – You hit the target

I have desired that which falls short of your beauty – – – In your beauty you bore my ugliness

I have been proud – – – You were humbled for me

I have hidden from you – – – Your light brings health into the darkest place that is open to you

I have doubted your love and goodness – – – You showed the full extent of your love by dying for me

I have failed to trust you in the darkness – – – You faced the ultimate darkness of the grave for me

Lord Jesus – I repent of my self-centred ways of living; I thank you that by faith I am clothed in your righteousness: fully known, fully loved, fully accepted. Please fill me with your Spirit that I might gaze on your beauty and be transformed into your likeness this week. For your glory, my blessing and the extension of your kingdom. Amen.
